Two Directors, Two Eras
Other than a few exceptions, the show featured just two directors over 9 seasons. Tom Cherones directed all but 5 episodes in seasons 1-5 (1990-1994) for a total of 81 episodes, and Andy Ackerman directed all but 2 episodes in seasons 6-9 (1994-1998), totaling 98 episodes.
INTERESTINGLY, our buddy Jason Alexander directed one episode - The Good Samaritan (1992) - the only time a cast member took over such duties. Did you notice anything unique about that one?

Jerry's Chinese food delivery guy was a reoccurring character that often went unnoticed.
PING appeared in the following episodes:
The Tape - Season 3, Episode 8
The Virgin - Season 4, Episode 10
The Visa - Season 4, Episode 15

And his real life name is also Ping. So there's that.

The Puerto Rican Day
This controversial episode was both the show's second-to-last episode ever as well as the second-highest-rated episode of all time. Controversy erupted when Kramer accidentally burned and then stomped out a Puerto Rican flag. After the initial airing, NBC decided to never show it again. In fact, TBS only began airing the episode in syndication on October 8, 2012 (14 years later!).
Another notable aspect of this show was that it was filmed in real-time, similar to their earlier, landmark shows, most notably The Chinese Restaurant.

When Will it End?
As much as we love our show, we come to the realization that sooner or later, Seinfeld will no longer be aired in syndication. It's been 13 years since the show ended, and thankfully it's still shown daily on TBS and your local Fox station. But at some point, the show will be removed from our daily TV schedule and officially become a relic of the past. So the question is, when? Let's hope it's later rather than sooner, but we are coming closer and closer as the years go by. And while the show still seems somewhat relevant to modern times, it's becoming less and less so through the years.

Notes on "The Invitations"
Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, a confessed fan of the show, long portrayed on Seinfeld by the voice of Larry David, filmed scenes for a guest appearance in this episode, but none of the footage made it to air. Reportedly, Steinbrenner disapproved of the morbid plot twist in which Susan is killed; and the gang's apparent indifference towards it. Steinbrenner has publicly stated his objections to the story several times, and said that is the reason he refused to allow his cameo to be shown.

MI Bottle Scam
One of the best (and worst) schemes hatched by Kramer and Newman...
Scene 1:
NEWMAN: Wait a minute. You mean you get five cents here, and ten cents there. You could round up bottles here and run 'em out to Michigan for the difference.
KRAMER: No, it doesn't work.
NEWMAN: What d'you mean it doesn't work? You get enough bottles together...
KRAMER: Yeah, you overload your inventory and you blow your margins on gasoline. Trust me, it doesn't work.
JERRY: Hey, you're not talking that Michigan deposit bottle scam again, are you?
KRAMER: No, no, I'm off that.
NEWMAN: You tried it?
KRAMER: Oh yeah. Every which way. Couldn't crunch the numbers. It drove me crazy.
Scene 2:
NEWMAN: I don't understand. You fill an eighteen-wheeler?
KRAMER: No, an eighteen-wheeler's no good. Too much overhead. You got permits, weigh-stations, tolls... Look, you're way outta your league.
NEWMAN: I wanna learn. I want to know why.
Scene 3:
KRAMER: A free truck? Oh boy, that completely changes our cost structure. Our G and A goes down fifty percent.
NEWMAN: We carry a coupla bags of mail, and the rest is ours!
KRAMER: Newman, you magnificent bastard, you did it!

Jerry's Archives
Jerry is posting three of his own favorite stand-up bits a day on www.jerryseinfeld.com.
In his words:
When I was ten years old, I started watching stand up comedians on TV. I fell in love with them and I'm just as fascinated with stand up comedy today. When I started doing TV, I saved every appearance on every show I did. I thought it might be fun to go through all of it and pick out three bits each day that still amuse me for some reason or another. I've also included stuff I'm doing now, and I'll be adding new stuff as I go. Somewhere out there are ten year olds like I was just waiting to get hooked on this strange pursuit. This is for them. I'm just hoping somehow it will keep this silliness going.

"Prognosis: Negative" - the film Elaine wants to see with Jerry, is also the name of an unproduced screenplay Larry David wrote in which the main character wrongly assumes a negative medical prognosis is a bad thing.
Which must have also spurred this one:

The Sniffing Accountant
This episode was actually based on a true story. In real life, Jerry Seinfeld's accountant stole money (about $50,000) from him to buy drugs, thus inspiring the main plotline for this episode.
"My accountant, whose name I won’t mention (not that he doesn’t deserve the infamy) stole I think fifty thousand dollars from me, and snorted it up his nose...[I] just gave him an envelope of cash, and never saw it again. And I used to talk about that guy and how much I hated him, so he became the Sniffing Accountant. That was some measure of revenge."

JERRY: I can't take it anymore! She's driving me crazy! I can't sleep, I can't leave the house, and I'm here, I'm climbin the walls. Meanwhile, I'm dating a virgin, I'm in this contest - something's gotta give!
JERRY: I don't know what to believe! You're eating unions, you're spotting dimes, I don't know what the hell is going on.
JERRY: George, this is a little too much for me - escaped convicts, fugitive sex...I got a cockfight to focus on.

RIP Steinbrenner
In honor of the passing of George Steinbrenner, below are a couple lesser known Big Stein facts:
At one point George describes Steinbrenner by saying, "No one knows what this guy's capable of; he fires people like it's a bodily function!" Nevertheless, the real Steinbrenner maintained that he was a fan of the show and that "Costanza is always welcome back." In one episode ("The Wink"), the Steinbrenner character mentions all of the people he fired, saying Billy Martin four times, and mentions then-current manager Buck Showalter, but then quickly swears George to silence. Though intended as a joke, the comment proved prophetic: just weeks after the episode aired, Steinbrenner did not bring back Showalter as Yankees manager and replaced him with Joe Torre.
The real Steinbrenner had filmed three scenes for the Seinfeld season 7 finale, "The Invitations", but they were edited out when the time of the original episode ran higher than the allowed time, and when Steinbrenner expressed disapproval of the plot about Susan's death (they can be seen in full on the Seinfeld Season 7 DVD Disc 4).

Killin mofos
In "The Masseuse" (1993), Elaine suggests that her boyfriend change his name from Joel Rifkin to "O.J." Rifkin (after O.J. Simpson) to avoid being confused with Joel Rifkin, the famous serial killer. Ironically, seven months later, O.J. Simpson was accused of murder and became one of the most famous alleged murderers in US history.

When George was in an especially bad situation, he would call Jerry with a frantic string of ridiculous issues, always eliciting the same response from Jerry. Below are a few examples, including Jerry getting a taste of it himself from Elaine.
George: Jerry! The Japanese guys had sake in the hot-tub! You gotta get 'em outta the drawers and get 'em down here, or I don't have a focus group to sell the pilot to Japanese TV!
Jerry: Uncle Leo?
George: Jerry!!
George: Jerry, I'm trapped under my desk. Steinbrenner is in the room. You got to help me!
Jerry: Who is this?
George: Jerry!!
George: Jerry! Jerry, my-my hair dryer ruined the picture! An' I need another one or I can't get back into the forbidden city!

Evil Kramer
While it's true that Kramer carried out a number of wacky schemes (bladder system for oil tankers, filling his mailbox with bricks), he also came up with a few truly sinister and malicious plots as well. A few that come to mind:
- Breaking steam valve to sabotage his former employer H&H Bagels
- Marking down prices at Putamayo ... and when that didn't work:
- Removing desicants from clothing pockets at Putamayo
- Scratching serial number off engine block and abandoning car
- Mail fraud involving Jerry's home stereo and the Post Office "write off"
- Filling laundrymat washing machine with concrete

HELLO
A secondary character that doesn't always get his due, Jerry's Uncle Leo appeared in 15 total episodes. His name is never revealed, only referred to as simply Uncle Leo. In an episode where Leo signs for a package of Jerry's, he actually signs it "Uncle Leo". In another episode, Jerry mentions Leo to Kramer. Kramer is initially confused, but upon remembering he says, "Oh, yeah. Right. Uncle Leo. Forgot his first name." He often brags about his son Jeffrey who works in the parks department (and is never actually seen on the show). When talking to people, he has a tendency to grab the person's arm and pull them in close - one of his many uncomfortable mannerisms.

Best ever?
George: The sea was angry that day, my friends - like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli. I got about fifty feet out and suddenly the great beast appeared before me. I tell you he was ten stories high if he was a foot. As if sensing my presence, he let out a great bellow. I said, "Easy, big fella!" And then, as I watched him struggling, I realized that something was obstructing its breathing. From where I was standing, I could see directly into the eye of the great fish.
Jerry: Mammal.
George: Whatever.
Kramer: Well, what did you do next?
George: Well then, from out of nowhere, a huge tidal wave lifted me, tossed me like a cork, and I found myself right on top of him - face to face with the blowhole. I could barely see from the waves crashing down upon me but I knew something was there. So I reached my hand in, felt around, and pulled out the obstruction.
Kramer: What is that, a Titleist? ... hole in one, huh?
Jerry: Mammal.
George: Whatever.

Sometimes random friends of Jerry and Elaine pop up once, then are never seen or heard from again. For example, Jerry's poker friends in The Opposite and Elaine's girlfriends in The Cigar Store Indian. Who are these people? All we know is they appear in single episodes, and then - like the wind - are never heard from again.

Jerry and George projects
Over the seasons, George and Jerry devised a number of shameless schemes to get what they wanted. A few are listed below, click titles for show descriptions.
- The Race - pretending not to have seen each other since high school and recount race winner
- The Roommate Switch - seeking to do the impossible
- The Marine Biologist - notable because George didn't know about this one until after Jerry rolled it out
- The Summer of George - George uses his newly found time to act as Jerry's relationship intern
- The Burning - George has Jerry use the same "it's me" line as his girlfriend, and Jerry has George practice showmanship and "leave on a high note"

Shark Jumping?
While most agree that seasons 4-7 (1992-1995) could be considered the four year Seinfeld peak, the season when the show lost it's way is debated. This transition could probably best be seen when when the big four started to become "characters of themselves". Examples could be Kramer more "out there" than normal (millennium party), George's anger going over the top (candy bar lineup), and Elaine fed up with her crew (bizzaro world). This may have actually happened before the departure of Larry David (season 8 - 1996) - possibly including his final year for season 6, which might explain a motive for his departure. Your thoughts?
